Building with Purpose, Guided by Responsibility

Makwa-Dewar approaches every project with a responsibility to the communities connected to the work.

Through Indigenous leadership, shared opportunity, and long-term thinking, the company creates outcomes that extend beyond the jobsite—supporting people, partnerships, and future growth.

A Different Way of Working

At Makwa-Dewar, Indigenous values shape how work is carried out, how relationships are built, and how opportunities are created.

This approach is grounded in respect, accountability, and a commitment to long-term impact. It informs decisions at every stage of a project and creates space for meaningful participation within the communities connected to the work.

Creating Opportunity Through Our Work

Supporting careers, development, and long-term participation

Makwa-Dewar is committed to hiring Indigenous employees and supporting their growth within industrial and construction environments.

Through recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development, the focus is on building lasting careers and creating access to meaningful work. Each project becomes an opportunity for individuals to gain experience, strengthen their skills, and contribute to work that supports both industry and community.

Leadership That Shapes Our Work

Ownership that supports long-term participation and accountability

Makwa-Dewar is a majority Indigenous-owned partnership, with 51% ownership held through Makwa Development Corporation.

Makwa Development is wholly owned by Scott Lee and Shane Chegahno, members of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation. This structure ensures Indigenous leadership is embedded within the company and supports sustained participation in the economic opportunities created through its work.

Makwa-Dewar is also a certified Indigenous business through the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business, reinforcing its commitment to recognized standards of Indigenous participation.

Supporting Communities Beyond Our Projects

Reinvesting in the places connected to our work

Makwa-Dewar is committed to reinvesting in the communities where projects take place.

This includes direct financial contributions, support for cultural events, and involvement in community initiatives that create long-term value. The focus is on contributing in ways that are meaningful, visible, and aligned with community priorities.

Recent contributions include donating a portion of profits generated through work at Darlington Nuclear Generating Station to the seven Williams Treaty First Nations, as well as supporting community initiatives such as Pow Wow sponsorships and infrastructure development.

Building Relationships That Carry Forward

Makwa-Dewar approaches our work as an ongoing commitment—built through action, strengthened through partnership, and measured over time.

For organizations looking to work with a partner that values responsibility, collaboration, and long-term impact, Makwa-Dewar offers a clear and grounded approach.
